The Ferrari Dino 246 GT is one of the most elegant sports cars of the early 1970s. With its sleek Pininfarina lines, V6 mid-engine, and remarkably light handling, it became the epitome of Italian engineering. Following a comprehensive two-year restoration, our 1971 coupé is now in excellent, almost mint condition. The car has been refurbished with great respect for the original craftsmanship, but with technical perfection – deliberately refined, not preserved like a museum piece.
The Dino series, named after Alfredino Ferrari, was originally intended to homologate a compact V6 engine for racing. At the same time, Ferrari deliberately positioned the 246 GT below the large V12 models: lighter, more accessible, more agile. Technically, the Dino was a collaborative project: the 2.4-litre V6 was developed in cooperation with Fiat and produced there in series in order to achieve the necessary quantities – some components, including headlights and switches, also came from the Fiat parts range. This combination of racing technology and industrial precision made the Dino a milestone between engineering artistry and everyday practicality.
This Dino 246 GT was first registered on 1 February 1971 and has Swiss veteran status. Originally delivered in red, it was repainted in its original colour, ‘Dino Blue’, during restoration – a shade that particularly emphasises its lines. The interior has been completely reupholstered in beige leather with blue inserts in a Daytona pattern. The entire vehicle history is fully documented and dates back to the 1970s. The vehicle also comes with original manuals and on-board documents in a separate leather folio – identical to those originally supplied with this model type.
The car underwent a complete overhaul at Kessel Classic in Lugano and previously in Slovenia, at considerable financial expense. The work included the engine, transmission, chassis, brake system, and interior, all of which were rebuilt or replaced. The bodywork was completely stripped of paint and rebuilt in its original colours. The mid-engine V6 with three Weber downdraft carburettors now delivers around 250 hp – slightly more than the original 195 hp – and ensures spontaneous, precise response. This technical and aesthetic precision elevates the car above the delivery standard of the time without compromising its authenticity.
The flowing lines, gently curved wings, and glass rear give the Dino a timeless elegance. The interior combines precision and flair: the instrumentation is clearly structured, the typical Ferrari gearshift grid looks like a piece of jewellery, and the new seats offer more comfort than the original – crafted to the highest standard. The result is a driving experience that combines the lightness of the 1970s with the precision of today's restoration.
The Ferrari Dino 246 GT embodies the synthesis of design culture, racing DNA, and technical sophistication. This example impresses with its complete history, Swiss veteran registration, and an uncompromising, period-correct restoration that gives the car an almost new appearance. It is not simply a gracefully aged object but a carefully refined classic that reinterprets the idea of the Dino – Italian elegance in its most precise form.
